WHEN TO HIRE
AN INTERIOR DESIGNER
It can be difficult to know when to hire an interior designer, SO WE HAVE CREATED A STEP-BY-STEP guide FOR YOU TO KNOW EXACTLY WHEN TO HIRE AND WHY. PLEASE CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE and SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT INQUIRy, here.
STEP 1: submit your project inquiry to interior designer candidate
All you need to have at this point in the process is your property and the readiness to begin your project. The largest benefit of submitting your project inquiry before you draw architectural plans or select your builder is the wealth of knowledge an interior designer provides in regards to preferred architectural designers, builders and contractors as well as guidance to create a custom floorplan tailored to exactly the way you want to live. During this time you will learn about our design process and how Hailey Kolbe Design can best serve you according to your project needs and request.
STEP 2: select your architect or architectual designer for new build // contractor for remodel
For a new build project you would select the firm best fit to draw the type of home you are looking to achieve. By having already involved an interior designer you will make this selection with guidance and vision of your end goal - aesthetically, functionally and budgetarily. It is important to consider your budget of the entire project at this stage in the process because the style of your home, the level of finish out you want to achieve with hard and soft materials (example: tile vs. furniture) along with the size, are all greatly determined once the floorplan is finalized. Lastly, if you own any special furniture items or antiques you want to incorporate into your new home we want to consider the placement and dimensions of these items early on.
For a remodel project you would select the best contractor for your specific renovation needs and goals with the recommendations of the interior designer. We would schedule a site visit with the contractor and sub-contractors to start the process of estimating the cost of your project. The benefit to having an interior designer involved in this process is for more comprehensive design planning that results in more accurate budgeting. As a team, my preferred contractor establishes numbers for you based upon collaborative meetings that consider the floorplan, aesthetic and types of materials needed to achieve the ultimate vision and finished product. Dependent upon the scope of your remodel my contractor will inform you if an architect or architectural designer is necessary.
STEP 3: take your finalized floorplans to builder for bid // review your remodel estimate from contractor
For a new build project it is essential you establish a building team that collaborates and communicates with ease and efficiency. The work of an interior designer is only effective if it is implemented by a collaborative team, working together to achieve a finished product that is aesthetically pleasing and functional for you and your family. Securing a group of individuals and sub-contractors that work as one whole team is the first step to a successful project that runs smoothly and results in your complete satisfaction. During this step we would acquire soil samples for submission of an engineered foundation. This step concludes with you seeing an estimated budget based upon collaborative meetings that considered the property, floorplan, aesthetic and types of materials needed to achieve the ultimate vision and finished product. Once you approve, your project construction begins!
At this stage in the process of a remodel project you would make any necessary changes and approve the estimate for construction to begin!
